Income tax launching dedicated emails to support Faceless Methods

The Income Tax Department implemented technology-driven faceless methods to make tax administration transparent and to end overreach by personnel, in accordance with the charter’s goals for the ministry.

On July 5, 2019, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered the first budget that included the faceless tax processing system that Prime Minister Narendra Modi initially promised in 2017.

Automated tax case selection using artificial intelligence and machine learning reduces tax officers’ discretion. In addition, In order to ensure that tax administration is impartial, transparent, and devoid of corruption, faceless assessment aims to eliminate any personal interaction between the taxpayer and the taxman.

Also, On September 25, 2020, the government issued a faceless appeal to abolish the discretionary powers of the taxman, limit corrupt activities, and make it easier for taxpayers to comply with the law.

According to the new system, Income Tax appeals are being resolved in a faceless way, with the exception of appeals relating to significant frauds, substantial tax evasion, search cases, foreign tax difficulties, and black money situations.

Know about National Faceless Penalty Centre (NeAC)

Faceless assessment and appeal systems for income tax were implemented. In addition, a National Faceless Penalty Centre (NeAC) was established. Thus, it was created in order to create a digital faceless penalty system that is fair, impartial, and transparent for tax defaulters.

There are mechanisms for legal and technical review in the system, which gives income taxpayers an appropriate opportunity to be heard.

In conclusion, the Income-tax department is implementing several new methodologies for the benefit of taxpayers and to encourage ITR Filing.
