FSSAI Extends Due-date for Renewal of Food License

All are aware that the world is suffering from the threat of Novel Coronavirus disease, which is otherwise called the COVID-19. The rise in the number of cases of COVID-19 infection in India and the rest of the world has induced great apprehension. The Indian government has imposed a complete lockdown till 3rd May 2020 in order to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection.

Many food business operators (FBOs) have now come to a halt due to the lockdown. They are currently not able to fulfill their regular compliance. Many of the FBOs having FSSAI registration or food license ar not able to renew their FSSAI licenses or FSSAI registration certificates.

In order to mitigate the stress of such FBOs, the apex food safety regulator FSSAI has now extended the due date for the renewal of the FSSAI Registration & FSSAI license.

1. How much is the due date for the renewal of the FSSAI Registration/license extended?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to give additional time to the food business operators (FBOs) for the renewal of FSSAI licenses and FSSAI registration. Hence, the due date for renewal of FSSAI Registration/license is extended till June 30, 2020.

2. Why has the due date for renewal of the FSSAI license been extended?

As discussed above, most of the FBOs have now come to standstill due to lockdown imposed because of the COVID-19 threat.

Moreover, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FSSAI has stopped auto-issuance and renewal of the FSSAI Registration & licenses.

The FBOs are unable to file applications for the renewal of the FSSAI Registration & licenses, as they generally take help from the State helpdesks and authorities to file these applications.
Hence, the due date for the renewal of FSSAI Registration or food license has been extended till 30th June 2020.

3. Whether the late fee for renewal of the FSSAI Registration waived off?

Yes, the late filing fee in the case of the renewal of the FSSAI Registration has been waived off. The interim period for the existing FSSAI Registration & licenses shall be deemed to be valid.

4. Whether there’s a relaxation for the FBOs of J&K and Laddakh?

Those FBOs that are situated in the state of J&K and the UT of Laddakh, and whose FSSAI Registration & licenses shall be expiring during the period of 1st August 2019 to 31st May 2020, a grace period is granted till 30th June 2020 for the renewal of FSSAI Registration & licenses.
