It was introduced by a law passed by parliament in December 1985. On February 13, 1986, the body went into operation.

Also, APEDA Registration is mandatory for all scheduled product(s) exporters to register with APEDA. Unless the Authority extends the time limit for registration, applicants must make the application within a month of an undertaking of export.
